29 of our brains are missing

Malaysia makes big strides to progressing up the knowledge chain, some of the initiatives that it has taken to expose post graduates to different learning practices, skills sets and cultures has led to greener pastures for some as they are lured away by the very people employed to teach them.
Leading Indian software giant, Infosys Technologies Ltd, a company with more than 50,000 employees, has offered jobs to 29 of the group of Malaysian fresh graduates who have just completed a four-month stint at the company’s high-tech campus in Bangalore.
The Malaysian trainees, including seven lecturers, were selected to attend a foundation course in computer science to help them improve their computer skills under collaboration between Infosys and the Malaysian government.
However, the ‘poaching’ of the 29 students is seen in a very positive light and a great success for the inaugural programme
Higher Education Minister, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, who presented certificates to them to mark the successful completion of their training, said the programme was useful as it exposed trainees to a different learning environment which would eventually prepare them for the relevant industry.
“Infosys has done wonders as these graduates are now more confident, articulate and ready to enter the industry once they return home,” Mustapa said in his speech at the graduation ceremony.
The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), which comes under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, helped spearhead the training programme and with the remarkable success rate. Discussions are underway to send more students and lecturers to Infosys for similar short-term quality enhancing training sessions.
The group arrived at Infosys Global Centre Mysore in February for the programme, which included software development modules, where lecturers with industry experience tutored them under a self-learning programme that allows students to work independently on practical assignments besides learning soft skills.
