Malaysia climbs the preffered outsourcing location ladder

Malaysia has been ranked as the fifth most preferred locations in the world for shared services and outsourcing (SSO), an improvement from its sixth placing last year, according to a study conducted by global consulting company Frost & Sullivan.

“Over here, we see concerted efforts by the Government to attract the attention of global Fortune 500 companies,” said Frost & Sullivan’s vice-president, information and communications technology practice, Nitin Bhat.

“While the Government may make certain efforts, it ultimately (depends on) the service providers, whether they are local or multinational,” he said when commenting on Malaysia’s prospects of climbing up the rankings at a presentation in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

In the study, India maintained its top ranking, followed by China, Ireland and Singapore which also retained their second, third and fourth positions respectively. Read the rest of this entry »

Outsource to….ME…and you…and you..

Reading Kevin Kobayashi-Hillary’s blog the other day made me think about how deep outsourcing of one form or another pervades our everyday life. (Kevin is a member of the National Outsourcing Association board)

This paradigm shift in services and how we interact with vendors and clients at all levels has seemingly ‘crept up’ upon us all in a manner that we simply accept it as being to our benefit and convenience…hmmm…..cant remember the last time someone at the local super duper hyper mega market asked me how my mum was doing, or how driving 25km to fight another 1000 cars into what seems like only 100 parking bays is convenient…..

I’ve provided an excerpt of Kevins ‘post’ to explain. Read the rest of this entry »

Serious Protest Outsourcing (SPO) PART 2

Ok, the humorous dig at the Indian populations preponderance to demonstrating against anything and everything made my email inbox a little warm for a day or two but most people seemed to enjoy it and took it all in good spirit, however I do apologise to the people who didn’t quite understand it to be the completely fictitious ‘post’ that it was.

Now I’ve apologized before I see effigies of myself or Newcaslte United Shirts being burnt in the streets and my local Indian food stall refuse to serve me my favourite Bryani rice I’d like to highlight some actual SPO which is taking place in the so called capital of the ‘free world’ Washington DC. Basic Steps

With the proliferation of bad media coverage about Chinese made products, I thought it would be prudent to provide some basic considerations for companies considering outsourcing part of their manufacturing.

If you are currently looking for a company to help with outsourcing your manufacturing, there are a lot of things that you want to consider. Your company image and the quality of your products will partially be in the hands of this manufacturer, and you will want to make sure that everything is done up to your company’s quality standards! In addition, you will want to find a company that is easy for you to work with, and one that can meet the demands and requirements of your outsourced work, operating in a country that has a mature manufacturing and logistics base. Here are a couple of things to look for when outsourcing your manufacturing: Read the rest of this entry »

New outsourcing model for French retiree’s

The excellent evolving excellence blog (www.evolvingexcellence.com/blog) ran a story yesterday of an outsourcing initiative for retirees to make extra money. Its truly entrepreneurial, but unfortunately illegal. I enjoyed it so would like to share it.

The rate of offences by French drivers over 65 jumped 38 per cent from 2003-05.

Of course the first root cause that comes to mind is that those French grandmas are driving old Citroen’s that are finally falling apart, causing accidents on the way to the local patisserie. Perhaps that’s a good thing, as the roads may soon be rid of one of the ugliest cars ever created. But no. The real reason is far different, and far more interesting. Read the rest of this entry »

U.S. Congress Votes to Outsource Presidency

Outsourcing is getting a grossly inflated bad press in the US at the moment, however I can’t help wondering how many people embrace this at the moment:

Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 05:49:31 AM PDT
Washington, DC (AP) — Congress today announced that the office of President of the United States of America will be outsourced to India as of August 1, 2007.

The move is being made in order to save the President’s $500,000 yearly salary, and also a record $521 trillion in deficit expenditures and related overhead the office has incurred during the last 5 years. “We believe this is a wise move financially. The cost savings should be significant,” stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-WA). “We cannot expect to remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash outlay,” Reynolds noted: Read the rest of this entry »

Manufacturing Outsourcing: Seven Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Metagrobolize was started to hopefully provide a ‘tool’ for anyone involved in outsourcing to either gain or share knowledge on best practices in what can be a very complex subject.

As the CEO of an outsource ‘Provider’ Metagrobolize is a great way for me to share my own thoughts as well as the thoughts, research and experience of other eminent personalities within the industry. Occasionally in the quest for more information and knowledge, I stumble across real gems of information, or in this case ‘insights into best practice’ Read the rest of this entry »

Indian Minister for Commerce shocks with announcing New Outsourcing Opportunities in SPO, Strong Protest Outsourcing

Move over call centres and data processing BPOs. The future of outsourcing belongs to another industry, if Indian Minister for Commerce, Kamal Nath, is to be believed. According to Nath, the next new wave of growth in the Indian economy will come from - believe it or not - the protest industry, now being referred to as SPO - Strong Protest Outsourcing.

Speaking at a news conference in New Delhi, Kamal Nath briefed reporters that he sees major business opportunities in getting Western countries to outsource their protests to India. Nath said, “The outsourcing business is about saving costs and increasing efficiency. Why should people in countries like USA and UK waste their time protesting over various issues? The per-capita income is too high to waste time on being offended. Instead, they can simply outsource this activity to Indian companies.” Read the rest of this entry »
